On February 12, 2003 at approximately 1:33am. a District Chicago Trooper was involved in a personal injury crash. The Trooper was stopped in the left shoulder and left lane of I-290 Westbound at HOman Avenue protecting the scene of a pervious traffic crash. The Trooper was in this fully marked squad car with all of his emergency equipment activated. The driver of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) was traveling in the left lane of I-290 when he failed to reduce his speed or change lanes. The SUV ran into the back of the squad car and then overturned. The Trooper was wearing his seat belt and received minor injuries. The driver of the SUV was wearing a seat belt and received no injuries. The driver of th SUV was charged with: Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (DUI). No insurance. driving with license suspended, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle (Scott's Law)
